Giovedì scorso abbiamo inanellato il primo smeriglio (Falco columbarius) alla stazione di Ponza in ben 21 anni di attività!
E' stato per noi infatti una bellissima sorpresa, perchè il meteo è stato piuttosto variabile questa settimana, e, dopo il forte maestrale e il freddo dei primi giorni, la temprratura è finalmente aumentata e con essa gli uccelli, fra cui questo magnifico esemplare di rapace!
Siamo passati da poche decine ai circa 400 uccelli inanellati oggi. Moltissimi luì verdi (Phylloscopus sibilatrix), sterpazzoline (Sylvia cantillans) e balie (Ficedula spp) e in generale numerose specie. Oggi, ad esempio, abbiamo concluso la settimana totalizzando 26 specie diverse!

Last Thursday we ringed the first Merlin (Falco columbarius) of the Ponza station in 21 years of activity!
It was in fact a wonderful surprise for us, because the weather was quite variable this week, and, after the strong mistral and the cold of the first days, the temperature has finally increased and with it the birds arrived more abundant, including this magnificent specimen of bird of prey!
We have gone from a few dozen to about 400 ringed birds today. We had many wood warblers (Phylloscopus sibilatrix), subalpine warbler (Sylvia cantillans) and Flycatchers (Ficedula spp) and in general numerous species. Today, for example, we ended the week with 26 different species in a day!
Below are some of the specimens passed to our nets today: yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava), black-eared wheatear (Oenanthe hispanica), woodchat shrike (Lanius senator) and sedge warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus).
