Warm greetings from the island of Ponza!
After many months of waiting we are back at the Ringing Station and we started the operational phase yesterday, Sunday 26th of February, after setting up the station and preparing all the materials over the weekend.
Of all the nets set up, only a few remained open on the first day of activity, due to the adverse weather conditions.
The first bird ringed for the 2023 season is a Sardinian warbler (Sylvia melanocephala), followed by a Stonechat (Saxicola torquatus) and a Firecrest (Regulus ignicapilla).
We expect in the next 2 days to be closed due to bad weather, but we will keep you updated on our activity, waiting to welcome the first volunteers at the end of March!
