A Ponza è ogni anno il protagonista della seconda parte della stagione e anche nel 2016 si è riconfermato come specie catturata più numerosa: è il Beccafico (Sylvia borin)!
A vederlo non sembrerebbe niente di speciale, non ha creste come l'upupa, né colori sgargianti come il gruccione, nè sembra un mostro della fantasia come il succiacapre. E' un passeriforme di lunghezza di circa 14 cm e ha un'apertura alare di 21 – 24 cm. Il peso varia fra i 16 - 22 grammi. Il piumaggio è di colore grigio-olivastro nella parte superiore del corpo, mentre tende al biancastro sull'addome e la parte inferiore.
Ebbene, il Beccafico è tutt'altro che monotono: è infatti un migratore di lungo raggio; infatti, trascorre l'inverno nell'Africa Tropicale, mentre durante il periodo di nidificazione si distribuisce in Centro e Nord Europa.
Non è speciale solo per i lunghi viaggi che fa! Il Beccafico, può sembrare un timido volatile che frequenta i nostri boschi, arbusteti e prati, ma a dire il vero abita il nostro pianeta da molto tempo. Il Beccafico e il suo parente più prossimo, la Capinera, sono un'antica coppia di specie che si discostarono molto presto dal resto del genere (Sylvia), tra i 12 ei 16 milioni di anni fa. Pare che il genere però fosse presente già 20 milioni di anni fa!

It's a passerine long about 14 cm and having a wingspan of 21-24 cm. The weight varies between 16-22 grams. The plumage is gray-olive color in the upper part of the body, whit dull white underparts. Well, the Garden Warbler is anything but monotonous: it is a long-range migratory; in fact, it spends the winter in tropical Africa, while, during the breeding period, it is distributed in Central and Northern Europe. It is not special just for long trips he does! The Garden Warbler, may seem like a timid bird that frequents our forests, shrubs and meadows, but, actually, it inhabits our planet since a very a long time! The Garden Warbler and its closest relative, the Blackcap, are an ancient pair of species that diverged very early from the rest of the genus (Sylvia), between 12 and 16 million years ago! It seems, however, that the genus was present already 20 million years ago! Chapeau!
