Giorni tranquilli si susseguono in questa prima parte della settimana: lunedì 10 uccelli inanellati in tutti, mentre ieri 38.
Le giornate sono assolate ma fredde: la mattina normalmente il termometro misura 6°C!...almeno siamo alleviati dal panorama mozzafiato!
Stamattina all'alba, come potete vedere, abbiamo preso il primo assiolo della stagione!
Questo strigide (Otus scops) di ridotte dimensioni è un migratore insettivoro che nidifica in tutta la penisiola italiana, isole comprese. La sua popolazione, purtroppo, sembra essere in declino (dati IUCN) e le maggiorni minacce si possono individuare tra la trasformazione dell'habitat di nidificazione e alimentazione e l'uso di pesticidi in agricoltura.
L'assiolo è una specie molto amata dai volontari e i visitatori della stazione di Ponza: tutti, infatti, rimangono ammirati da quegli occhi enormi e gialli e dal piumaggio perfettamente mimetico!

This small-sized strigid (Otus scops) is an insectivorous migrator that nests throughout the Italian peninsula, including the islands. Unfortunately, its population appears to be in decline (IUCN data) and the greatest threats can be identified as the transformation of the nesting and foraging habitat and the use of pesticides in agriculture.
The Scops Owl is a species much loved by volunteers and visitors to the Ponza station: in fact, everyone is admired by those huge yellow eyes and the perfectly camouflaged plumage!
