Maggio, mese famoso per le cosìddette 'botte', ovvero giornate di cattura con numeri straordinari, si è rivelato ancora più produttivo. Nelle ultime tre settimane abbiamo inanellato cira metà (10.000 ca.) degli uccelli catturati in tutta la stagione. La giornata con il numero più alto di catture è stata il 5 maggio con circa 1200 uccelli tutti entrati in un brevissimo lasso di tempo. In questi ultimi giorni, inoltre, ci siamo mantenuti a un ritmo costante di circa 400-500 uccelli al giorno. La luna piena infatti ha contribuito a tenere alti i numeri delle catture anche nelle ore più tarde della giornata.
May, the month famous for the so-called 'peaks', or rather the days of extraordinary numbers of captures, proved to be even more productive. In the last three weeks, we have ringed about half (approx. 10,000) of the birds captured throughout the season. The day with the highest number of catches was May the 5th with around 1200 birds, all arrived in a very short amount of time. In the last few days, we have also been maintaining a steady pace of about 400-500 birds per day. The full moon in fact helped to keep the numbers of catches high even in the later hours of the day.
Le specie più frequenti sono i transahariani tipici di passaggio in questo periodo: Canapino maggiore (Hippolais icterina), Beccafico (Sylvia borin), Sterpazzole (Sylvia communis) e Pigliamosche (Muscicapa striata). Non mancano poi le specie che, pur sempre comuni, sono meno frequenti alle reti, come il Calandro (Anthus campestris), l'Upupa (Upupa epops), lo Zigolo capinero (Emberiza melanocephala), e il Gruccione (Merops apiaster).
Le catture più sorprendenti perchè più rare sono quelle di Ghiandaia marina (Coracias garrulus) e di Smeriglio (Falco columbarius).
The most frequent species are the typical trans-Saharanians passing during this period: Melodius warbler (Hippolais icterina), Garden warbler (Sylvia borin), Whitethroat (Sylvia communis) and Spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa striata). There are also species which, although always common, are less frequent in the nets, such as the Tawny pipit (Anthus campestris), the Hoopoe (Upupa epops), the Black-headed bunting (Emberiza melanocephala), and the Bee-eater (Merops apiaster).
The most surprising catches, because they are rarer are the Roller (Coracias garrulus) and of Merlin (Falco columbarius).
Dal 23 aprile il meteo si è stabilizzato, con giornate soleggiate soleggiate e calde, rinfrescate solo da qualche folata di vento. Prevediamo si mantenga così fino alla fine della stagione di inanellamenrto 2022 che si concluderà il 26 maggio.
From the 23rd of April the weather has stabilized, with sunny and very hot days, cooled only by a few gusts of wind. We expect it to continue like this until the end of the ringing season 2022 which will end on May the 26th.
