Ieri il vento si è calmato e alle 10.30 abbiamo aperto tute le reti. Questo ci ha permesso di catturare 39 uccelli in tutto, con un buon livello di biodiversità relativa.
Fra le catture, anche una nuova specie per la stagione 2018: un bell'esemplare di Torcicollo adulto. Il Torcicollo, pur appartenendo alla famiglia dei Picchi, non possiede alcune abitudini comportamentali tipiche: non tambureggia, non si arrampica verticalmente sui tronchi, non scava il legno per procurarsi il cibo né per costruirsi il nido. L'atteggiamento caratteristico a cui deve il nome è quello per cui allunga il collo, gonfia le penne della testa e si muove lentamente avanti e indietro. Infatti, l'obiettivo è quello di imitare un pericoloso serpente così che il predatore si spaventi e rinunci all'attacco.

Yesterday the wind calmed down and at 10.30 we opened all the nets. This allowed us to capture 39 birds in total, with a good level of relative biodiversity.
Among the catches, also a new species for the 2018 season: a beautiful adult of a Wryneck. Although the Wryneck belongs to the Woodpeckers family, it does not have any typical behavioral habits of it: it does not drum, it does not climb vertically on the trunks, it does not dig wood to get food or build a nest. The characteristic attitude to which it owes its name is when lengthens the neck, lifts the feathers of the head and moves slowly back and forth. In fact, the goal is to imitate a dangerous snake so that the predator gets scared and gives up the attack.
