Anche la giornata di ieri, mercoledì 11 aprile, non è stata fra le più fruttuose. A causa del molto vento, siamo riusciti a riempire a malapena 4 schede del nostro registro di inanellamento. Abbiamo però ricevuto un ospite gradito, un bel Topino (nella foto sopra).
We can state that yesterday, Wednesday the 11th of April, hasn't been a fruitful day too. Because of the strong wind, we barely fulfilled 4 sheets of our register of ringed birds. At least, we caught a nice specimen of Sand martin (in the picture above).
Questo primo mese della stagione 2018 di inanellamento a Ponza è stato molto duro: il maltempo non ci ha dato molta tregua, danneggiando addirittura parte della stazione e mettendo alla prova la nostra pazienza e resistenza alle intemperie. In periodi come questo è necessario essere sempre pronti a chiudere o aprire le reti, aumentare la frequenza di visita alle reti, velocizzare le operazioni di inanellamento. Non sono mancati i giorni di picchi di catture, come, ad esempio, la 'pettirossata' notturna che ci ha fatto catturare circa 300 animali in una serata.
Come ogni giorno, ma ancora di più in momenti come questi, il contributo dei volontari è quanto mai fondamentale: sono la benzina per il nostro motore! Ci teniamo, in particolare a ringraziare Matteo (Campos), fedelissimo aiutante della stazione da molti anni. Durante le sue tre settimane di permanenza a Ponza ci ha aiutati enormemente! This first month of the 2018 ringing season at Ponza has been very tough: the bad weather did not give us much respite, even damaging part of the station and putting our patience and resistance to the test. In times like this, you need to be always ready to close or open nets, increase the frequency of visits to the transects, speed up the ringing operations. We also had some days of big catches, such as, for instance, the nocturnal 'robins' wave' that made us capture about 300 animals in one evening.
Like every day, but even more during these kind of periods, the contribution of volunteers is very important: they are petrol for our engine! We would like to thank in particular Matteo (Campos), who has been a loyal helper of the station for many years. During his three weeks of stay in Ponza he helped us enormously this year!
