Se venite a Ponza e sentite la parola 'BOTTA', vi consigliamo di raccogliere le energie e la forza di volontà, perchè significa che si sta verificando sull'isola un passaggio molto intenso di migratori. Questo, tradotto nelle attività quotidiane della stazione, significa che un elevato numero di uccelli entrerà nelle reti (come si vede nel video girato dall'inanellatore Giuseppe Landucci nel 2014) e si lavorerà a ritmo sostenuto!
If you come to Ponza and you hear the word 'BOTTA*' you should gather all you energies and willpower, beacause it means that a big wave of migration is hitting the island. This, translated into the station daily activities, means that a high number of birds is going to hit the nets (as you can see in the video filmed by the ringer Giuseppe Landucci) and you have to collect the birds at the highest pace!
Durante i giorni di BOTTA, tutte le azioni devono essere fatte nella maniera più efficace e attenta, senza andare nel panico.
La priorità assoluta è quella di catturare gli uccelli senza arrecare loro alcuno stress ulteriore o danno, perchè, ovviamente, questo sarebbe controproducente rispetto ai nostri obiettivi di conservazione della natura. Quando il ritmo diventa insostenibile, è possibile chiudere le reti, tutte o solo alcune.
Le operazioni di inanellamento si effettuano molto velocemente, di modo da rilasciare gli animali al più presto possibile e evitare lunghi tempi di attesa per gli uccelli a cui deve esser applicato l'anello. Capita spesso che più di 1 - fino a 3 - inanellatori lavorino contemporaneamente, ma colui che scrive i dati sul registro rimane sempre uno, poichè i dati sono riportati in maniera consequenziale su foglio in ordine progressivo. Ecco che silenzio e concentrazione sono più che indispensabili in momenti come questi.
La BOTTA rappresenta un momento di emergenza per la stazione, quindi tutti i volontari e gli aiutanti sono quanto mai necessari per contribuire alla riuscita delle attività di inanellamento.
During BOTTA time, any actions has to be carried out in the most effective and careful way, without panicking. The priority is to catch the birds without causing any further stress or damage to them, of course, since it would be absolutely counterproductive according to our aim of wildlife conservation. When the pace becomes unbearable, the nets can be closed, totally or partially. The ringing operations will be carried out very quickly, in order to release the bird as soon as possible and to ring alla the bird avoiding a too long waiting time for them. It can happen that 1 to 3 ringers are working simoultaneously, to be faster, but the person who report the data on the register will always be just one, since data are reported in a consequential order on progressive register's sheets. Therefore, silence and concentration are even more necessary during such a moment.
BOTTA represents an emergency time for the station, therefore, all the volunteers and helpers should be at the station to contribute to the activities.

Abbiamo notato che la maggiore probabilità che avvenga un giorno di BOTTA è massima negli ultimi giorni di Aprile e durante le prime settimane di Maggio.
We experienced a higher probability of BOTTA occurrence during the last days of April and the first weeks of May.
