Uno studio condotto da University of Florida Institute of Food e Agriculture Sciences, BirdLife International International e altre istituzioni, e pubblicato questa settimana sulla prestigiosa rivista Science, rivela che il cambiamento climatico porta ad alterazioni di forma, dimensione, sesso e distribuzione di animali e piante.
In particolare, negli ultimi 50'anni, tre specie di passeriformi nel nord-est degli Stati Uniti hanno visto ridursi la loro apertura alare del 4%; mentre il Piovanello maggiore ha prole sempre più piccola e con becchi sempre più brevi: ciò è sfavorevole al foraggiamento è può incidere negativamente sulle loro aspettative di crescita.

A study led by University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, BirdLife International and other institutions, published this week in the prestigious journal Science, reveals ongoing alterations in shape, size, sex and distribution of animals and plants are due to man-made warming.
In particular, over the last 50 years, three species of passerine birds in the north-east of the USA have seen their wing span reduced by 4%; while Red knots have smaller offspring, with shorter bills (not as good for foraging hence affecting negatively their growth prospects).
