La stazione di inanellamento di Ponza non è solo un centro di ricerca sulla migrazione degli uccelli, ma anche un centro di divulgazione scientifica. Poter mostrare le nostre attività a scuole e visitatori vari, ci aiuta a aumentare la consapevolezza dell'importanza della conservazione della natura.
Ieri ci hanno fatto visita i bambini del Centro socioassistenziale per bambini e ragazzi di Ponza 'Il Veliero'. Abbiamo mostrato loro le differenze fra le specie catturate: un verzellino (Serinus serinus), piccolo fringillide dal becco robusto per cibarsi di semi e granaglie; un giovane cardellino (Carduelis carduelis), con i colori non ancora sgargianti e ben definiti come l'adulto, e un bellissimo esemplare di rigogolo (Oriolus oriolus), il cui maschio ha un piumaggio giallo intenso, dello stesso colore delle ginestre che fioriscono attorno alle nostre reti.
The Ponza ringing station is not only a research centre on bird migration, but also a science dissemination centre. Being able to show our activities to various schools and visitors helps us to raise awareness of the importance of nature conservation actions.
Yesterday we were visited by the children of the Centre 'Il Veliero' from Ponza. We showed them the differences between the species caught: a serin (Serinus serinus), a small finch with a robust bill to feed on seeds and grains; a young goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), with colours not yet bright and well defined as the adult, and a beautiful specimen of golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus), whose male has an intense yellow plumage, the same color as the brooms that bloom around to our mistnets.
Siamo abituati a vedere gli uccelli sfrecciare nel cielo o saltellare da un luogo all'altro, quindi un incontro ravvicinato con diverse specie come quello al tavolo di inanellamento permette di scoprirne le peculiarità, riconoscerne le caratteristiche e ammirarne la bellezza.
Una visita alla stazione di Ponza lascia spesso a bocca aperta, ma soprattutto ci fa sentire più vicini al mondo della natura.
We are used to seeing birds darting in the sky or jumping from one place to another, so a close encounter with different species such as the one you can experience at the ringing table allows you to discover their peculiarities, recognise their characteristics and admire their beauty.
A visit to Ponza station often leaves you speechless, but above all it makes you feel closer to the world of nature.
