Marzo sta tormentando l'Europa con ondate di maltempo e sferzate di freddo e gelo: niente ci fa pensare che l'arrivo della bella stagione sia imminente.
Eppure siamo a Marzo, mese per noi di CISCA molto importante perché segna il periodo di inizio delle nostre attività. Alla fine di questa settimana, infatti, si avvierà la stagione di inanellamento a scopo scientifico di Ponza del 2018. Come sempre, il team CISCA con il supporto di preziosissimi volontari allestirà il campo di lavoro per la ricerca.
L'inanellamento è un'attività di grande utilità per la ricerca scientifica e il monitoraggio a scopo di gestire e proteggere le specie ornitiche che frequentano il nostro Paese. Si tratta di attività di campo. all'aria aperta, nel contesto di un paesaggio mediterraneo meraviglioso. Si lavora a stretto contatto con animali vivi, dei quali è priorità garantire il benessere, perciò è richiesta grande responsabilità, attenzione e rispetto. Si lavora al freddo e al caldo, pronti ad agire qual'ora il meteo divenisse avverso o il flusso migratorio si facesse abbondante. Può sembrare stancante o difficile a volte, ma la ricompensa è quella di poter assistere in prima persona allo spettacolo ancora in parte inspiegato della migrazione degli uccelli, da sempre oggetto di curiosità e meraviglia da parte dell'uomo. L'attività che svolgiamo ogni giorno a Ponza, sembra piccola, ma ci rende parte di un progetto più grande di monitoraggio e conservazione: anche grazie alle informazioni che sapremo raccogliere, potremo contribuire a conoscere meglio e tutelare i nostri ecosistemi e chi li abita o usa.
La settimana di volontariato alla stazione di Ponza, permette, al di là di fare esperienze nuove, di lavorare a fianco di esperti della natura e di condividere conoscenze ed esperienze con i compagni di attività. Noi stessi del CISCA team, siamo consapevoli che una così differenziata e vasta partecipazione al nostro progetto, ci permette di migliorare ed ampliare le nostre conoscenze e vedute.
Maltempo o no, vogliamo vedere questa nuova stagione come un'opportunità, per noi tutti, di lavorare, contribuire, condividere e imparare.

March is tormenting Europe with waves of bad weather and a blasts of cold and frost: nothing makes us think that the arrival of the warm season is imminent.
Yet we are in March, a month that for us of CISCA is very important because it marks the beginning of our activities. In fact, at the end of this week, Ponza's 2018 scientific ringing season will start. As always, the CISCA team, with the support of invaluable volunteers, will set up the research field.
Migratory bird ringing is a very useful activity for scientific research and monitoring with the purpose of managing and protecting the bird species that frequent our country. It is about field activity, in the open air, in the frame of a wonderful Mediterranean landscape. We work closely with alive animals, of which well-being is our priority, so great responsibility, attention and respect is required. We work both in condition of cold and heat, ready to act when the weather becomes adverse or the migratory flow is abundant. It may seem tiring or difficult at times, but the reward is to be able to witness firsthand the still partly unexplained spectacle of bird migration, which has always been the object of human curiosity and wonder. The activity we do every day in Ponza, seems small, but it makes us part of a bigger project of monitoring and conservation: thanks to the information we will gather, we can help to better understand and protect our ecosystems and their users. The week of volunteering at the Ponza station, allows, beyond making new experiences, to work alongside experts of nature and to share knowledge and experience with fellow volunteers. We ourselves of the CISCA team, we are aware that such a differentiated and broad participation in our project, allows us to improve and expand our knowledge and views too.
Bad weather or not, we want to see this new season as an opportunity for us all to work, contribute, share and learn.
