Siamo giunti a maggio e il tempo nell'ultima settimana si è un po' sistemato.
Il numero di uccelli inanellati è sceso, con una media di 100 uccelli al giorno. Ieri il sole splendeva, il vento era un po' freddo e non si sono presi più di 2-6 uccelli a giro. Le reti sembravano quasi vuote!
In questo periodo, le catture sono quelle tipiche del mese e della fine della stagione di migrazione: Beccafico, Canapino Maggiore e Luì verde come specie prevalenti.
Fra le specie più comuni, abbiamo inanellato anche alcuni visitatori meno frequenti come l'Averla piccola e il Forapaglie macchiettato (primo della stagione!).
Mancano solo 10 giorni alla fine della stagione...una stagione che ci ha messo parecchio alla prova, a causa del maltempo e dei grandi numeri di uccelli anticipati. Speriamo che si chiuda con il bel tempo, per permetterci di continuare con la nostra raccolta dati al meglio!
May is here and the weather in the past week has been a bit better.
The number of ringed birds decreased, reaching a daily average of 100 birds. Yesterday the sun was shining, the wind was a bit cold and we did not catch more than 2-6 birds per net-round. The nets seem almost empty!
In these days, the species we catch are those typical of the month and of the end of the ringing season in Ponza. Garden warbler, Icterine warbler and Wood warbler are the main species at the moment.
Among the common species, we ringed also some less frequent visitors, such as the Red-backed shrike and the Grasshopper warbler (first of the season!).
Only 9 days are missing until the end of the season....a season that challenged our activity a lot this year, because of the bad weather and the big number of birds arrived early this year. We hope that we can, at least, conclude this season under the sun, in order to allow us to collect our data in the best way we can!
